(meteorobs) Short Perseid session from Hawaii (Aug 12/13)

Last nite I went up to the visitors center again to observe the third perseid peak which should have occured around 0830UT. The radiant was very low at this time, only 7deg on the average for my session, so I was not expecting a lot of activity unless it stormed.

In half hour I saw 3 PER, only one of which was a truly awesome mag 1 earthgrazer sliding from under polaris towards Bootes. This calculates to a zhr=44+/-26. Pretty hard to tell from this if anything going on or just the normal activity winding down?

Anyway I didnt notice much further activity building up, so I returned to telescopic observing of variables. While looking at the FI Cas field, a mag 8 or so PER split right thru the center at 400x! I could see the details of the granular, mottled path it left behind. I would estimate the path width was about 20 arcsec. Pretty cool!
