(meteorobs) Observation August 8/9

Hi!
Between August 8th and 15th, 12 meteor observers participated in our annual
meteor/astronomy camp taking place at Jezerski vrh. By coincidence the number
of new observers equaled the number of more experienced observers, so each
experienced observer was assigned a new one. August 8/9 was the first
night of the camp. It was cloudy during the afternoon but cleared nicely
by 11 pm. During the first hour there were some intrusions by low clouds
actually forming below us with their tops protruding above our elevation.
They were gone by midnight, but appeared again around 3 am and ended our
observations half an hour before dawn. The sky was quite impressive in
spite of slight haze: we could easily see deep sky objects such as M13,
M92 and M33. Top average LM reached 7.0. Milky Way was bright and
impressive, while several light domes on the horizon spoiled the view somewhat.
Meteor activity was good from the beginning. There was good activity
from the Perseids reaching almost 25/h. The best Perseids of the night were
a yellow -3m fireball in Cetus at and an orange -4m fireball in Camelopardalis
with a 7 second train. Other showers were present but nothing special.
The sporadics were very heavy on the faint side. Javor and I also observed
comet C/2002 O6 with 7x50 binos and made some magnitude estimates.
