(meteorobs) Re: US Satellites Detect Fireball Over Siberia



Dear All,

I just forwarded this additional info to researchers in Bodaibo and Irkutsk.
It seems that researchers in Bodaibo were able to localize roughly the area,
where the effects were the most pronounced. According to second-hand reports
in the area close to the end of the "USAF trajectory": a multi-colored
object flew; and [electric lamp's] bulbs and windows broke. Unfortunately,
researchers in Bodaibo were not able to check this themself, due to bad
phone-connections.
Unfortunately, using a helicopter in the area in prohibited temporarily due
to recent aircrash.  Winter is coming in the area, it snowed...
3 scientists from Irkutsk plan to go to Bodaibo on October 17 to collect
witness's accounts and take snow/soil samples.  But without a helicopter,
they can hope in taiga just for a luck...

Preliminary, from the data aviable, it seems that the object disintegrated
in the air, and just small (maybe still up to tonn-sized?) fragments reach
the ground.  Anyway, let's wait for the development.
