(meteorobs) Leonid meteor storm above spain !
Hi Mark, Lew, members of meteorobs,
A short word :
Coming back from our DMS Leonid expedition
to Southeastern Spain...
This is a short summary of my 2002 Leonid campaign
;
-14-15/11 : first Leonids, observed at home.
-16-17/11 : didn't woke up...(damn' watch
!)
-17-18/11 : clear ; observed from 22.00 - 05.45 UT
(damn' moon !!) Highest counting in one hour : +-15 Leonids.
-18-19/11 : partly cloudy ; observed from 22.00 -
06.15 UT ; I saw the 2002 Leonid meteor storm under sometimes "difficult
conditions" ; cirrus and high clouds after 00.30 UT spoiled the view of this
new Leonid display (damn' clouds !) Very sharp peak, a few minutes after
04.00 UT - also submaxima. Mostly faint meteors. Minute
counting passed 20 Leonids/ minute. Also a couple of bright
fireballs !
Grand total (preliminary) ; +-1100 Leonids
(could have been much more...)
-19-20/11 : cold front with rain...(damn' rain
!)
More details to come...
Check also these websites (they will be updated
very soon)
