RE: (meteorobs) An unknown meteor storm seen in Finland in the 1960's

Hartwig was more quick to tell what I was about to tell on this (I have
subscribed the meteorobs to my work email and just arrived to work). It
was daylight at the time of the known storm and the Leonids can be seen
from a high radiant only in the early morning hours.

I now have received another observation of this strom. Also this has not
a good timing, but most probably restricts the years to 1966 or 1967 and
and would probably suit for the Draconids/Giacobinids.

This was what I also first thought when I read
Esko's story.

The meteor storm was at 12:00 UT, as far as I know.
At that time, the radiant was about 9 deg high,
but it was daytime - the sun was also 7 deg high
in the sky. Astronomical twilight was at 16:16 UT,
but then the radiant was below the horizon.

These times are for Helsinki. From the very north
of Finland, the sun was 1.3 deg BELOW the horizon at maximum time, and
at 16 UT, at the time of astr. twilight, the radiant was some degrees
above the horizon. But with the rates already being quite low at this
time, I doubt that this would have given a spectacular sight as
described. Also it would imply that the observation was not from the
Helsinki region, as indicated by Esko.
