LEONIDS 2002
~an international anthology of short poetry and poetic thoughts
collected by Andrei Dorian Gheorghe
<GheorgheDorian@romtelecom.ro>
and Valentin Grigore~
(Note: the following texts were read in Romanian at the SARM
National
Conference, Vanatorul Camp, Bucegi Mountains, November 30)

Jeremie Vaubaillon, France:
A whole year waiting for a starry "rendez-vous"
We all went out for Leonids 2002
But jalous Moon and clouds pulled by a windy rope
Stroke with my head and my eyes, distilling my hope.

You flourish and vanish, but hey! I saw you twice!
One to ten thousand miles, for one hour or two
Leonids, Leonids, you who inspire my rimes
Leonids, Leonids, I wish I could know you.

You vagabond of the Sun, how long will you hide?
Unlike the Gaul, I'm waiting for the sky to kiss
On the circle of the Earth you made me ride
Cause the only fear I feel is for you to miss.

And 'till the end of my life I'll remember you
But are you the last, Leonids 2002?

Florentin Smarandache, USA:
A fine rain of stars falling into my soul.

Galina Ryabova, Russia (Tomsk, Siberia):
At the middle of November the weather in Siberia is usually cloudy.
I muse on the myriad of shooting stars.
There, beyond a thick layer of clouds.

Tina Visarian (Cristina Tinta-Vass as meteor observer), Romania
(Campia Turzii):
1. (before the maxim)
A November morning. Cold biting my cheek,
and I remembering the meteors rent
by the clenched jaws of the Lion.
I hoped to see the sacred stones,
the sky sacrifice offering living water
to the mortals' souls.
2. (November 18/19)
The Moon's wheel notched a part of the glass sky,
and didn't want to roll down beyond the hill...
But who cared...?
In that deep night, an avalanche of meteors falling
and covering us through their light.

Eliza Trandafir, Romania (Bucharest):
Sparkling, Leonids were coming to our sky,
sweeping white stars with their fire manes.

Teodora Plaesu, Romania (Bacau):
Congratulations, predictors to this Leonid maxim:
the meteors came to the appointment
better than us, the people!

Diana Maria Ogescu, Romania (Targoviste):
Night carried by the angels' arms,
Moon smiling sleepy...
And meteors- drops lost
From the sky dew!

Stefan Berinde, Romania (Blaga's Rivulet, Cindrel Mountains):
A short Leonid meteor passing through the constellation.
"You wanted to aim at me, Leonis!
But... what a failure...
Try again, please."

Cornel Apetroaiei, Romania (Cluj):
There were moments when a few Leonids
appeared at the same time,
flowing in gusts.
This show continued until the morning light
erased all the stars in the canopy.

Bogdan Calin, Romania (Targoviste):
Wow!!! Another meteor!
Another life in eternity.

Catalin Bunofschi, Romania (Targoviste):
My love to be in every falling meteor...
my heart in their shine,
a part of me in every spark,
a tender word in every fireball,
and all of them to come from the angels' wings...
meteors to slide on moonbeams into her being,
Jupiter and Saturn to give birth to a war in her soul,
after that Venus to open her heart,
and to pacify the dawn of her eyes...

Alexandru Conu, Romania (Bucharest):
During the maxim I saw
about 60 meteors among the clouds.
We were 16 persons,
but all night long we just warmed each other.
No meteors for warming us.

Iulian Olaru, Romania (Cernavoda):
3h25m-4h15m Universal Time.
I observed about 180 Leonids,
usually only heads (end or beginning)
entering or going out through the clouds.
Imagine the morning air on a bank of the Danube River,
and all those meteors
sometimes lost among the clouds,
and at other times plunging into the water.

Valentin Grigore, Romania (Targoviste):
The Moon - this queen in the night
Crowned by the colours of raimbow -
And wings of clouds growing
Through arrows of light.

Adrian Sima, Romania (Bucharest):
The Lion- chameLEON_IDentical with the light,
hunting through his flames
the sleep of the sand from the hourglass
of a November night...

Ruxandra Toma, Romania (Vaslui):
Meteors fell from all the directions.
Unfortunately, there were clouds.
If it would have been a clear sky,
this cosmic wonder would have been indescribable.
Certainly, I am a recordman in missing meteors.

Andrei Dorian Gheorghe, Romania (Bucharest):
Venus fighting the clouds.
The Moon fighting the fog.
Some small (starry and ephemeral) screens among them
nailing us to see 10 meteors
and 1 fireball (probably their captain).
After that: pink, red, yellow...
the sunrise crowning the celestial work.

Tania Tilici, Romania (Bacau):
All the world things- forgotten truths-
Return to the sky
In souls of meteors.

Narcis Zamfirescu, Romania (Bucharest):
Our life?! As fast as a meteor
embellishing time.

Dan Mitrut, Romania (Palanca de Huruiesti):
(1.) The princess- that timid comet-
kissed the front of the sleeping Lion.
He remembered, rising,
he was love for us a long time ago.
Tears over dawn,
lights, regrets, immortality.
(2.) Dreams in blazes from the Lion,
adorned in the parents' crown,
Leonids are always
diamonds in the saints' aura.
Drops, autumnal holy water
over tired eyes and wakefulness.
Leonids- rennaissance for us,
forever.

Alastair McBeath, U.K. (Morpeth, Northumberland):
In total, I spotted 213 Leonids, 2 STA, and 2 sporadics
in 2h24m watching.
The oddest thing of all was that there was
a thrush singing its heart out during the storm peak;
must be the Moon,
or maybe it was just enjoying the meteors?!

Hamid Touma, Morroco (Rabat Astronomical Society):
What a fabulous night!
There were 5 terrible fireballs, a luminosity and persistent train...
and on such an incredible distance, all was adorned by nice
colours...
Congratulations to all the courageous people who moved away...
No real pricks for them!
And for they who were deprived of the weather,
there will be other chances...

Danut Ionescu, New Zealand (Auckland):
November 24, 23:15 local time.
From the Orion belt, a +3.5 red meteor
passed parallel to the horizon
and disappeared in Carena.
Duration: 5 seconds.
It had 2 small variations of brightness.
Was it an echo of the Leonid shower in the Southern Hemisphere?
