(meteorobs) Observation Jannuary 2/3, 2003 from Slovenia
Happy New Year Everybody!
When I looked through the window last night I was quite surprised
to find clear skies. It had been raining in the afternoon and the
evening and the weather forecast was not optimistic either. But
there it was, a hole in the clouds above my location, not more than
200 km wide, and it stayed there for the whole night.
Because of the rain, the skies were very clear, however I had to be
content with lying in the mud. I observed meteors for two hours in
which I logged 37 meteors, most of them were plotted. Quadrantids
were quite active the night before maximum with 12 members seen
during the session. Also active were Delta Cancrids with 3 meteors
and Coma Berenicids with 2 meteors. No bright meteors were seen
during the session.
I ended meteor observations to look at the comet C/2002 X5 (Kudo-
Fujikawa). I estimated it at magnitude 6.4. I casually watched
meteors until dawn. The activity from the Quadrantids was picking
up quite fast as I saw at least a dozen QUAs during that last hour.
It is still clear here, so I might get the chance to observe the peak
form QUAs!
Clear skies!
Javor.
