(meteorobs) Re: meteorobs-digest V4 #1082 - Angles, wing, tank and heating protection.

All,

The tragedy faced by the Columbia crew has no parallels in recent spacial
history. I would like to express my condolences to the families of the
astronauts and friends. So, thinking on this, I would like also to add some
of my reflections about the accident, supported, mostly on the facts
observed by me through TVs News. So, again, I would like to express kind of
my opinion on these subjects: a)If Columbia turned to the right side, what
made this sway?; b)If the re-entry was eminent and the most aflictive moment
in that journey, why the combustible tank in the left side seemed to be
out?; c)If the left wing of Columbia was out too, when they both , the tank
and the wing, had just crashed away?d)If the Columbia showed an evident
right angle, ins't that too clear to proove that it has no aerodynamics
working properly?Did it happen in the atmosphere re-entry or right
after?Well, I think that it occured after the intense heating and gravity
affects during the re-rentry. Also, TVs News showed that some of the
heating protection bricks were lost during the departure. These facts are,
in the moment, in my opinion, the most evident to believe that something was
out of men's control. To void the flight on that moment, thence, the
departure, would be the way out to avoid the accident? I'd say "no", now.
There are many more evidences to be taken in order to formulate a very
concrete conclusion on the tragedy. Hypothesis will come and go, and they
are all important. Thinking about this, I am very confident and hopefull
that the authority teams working on Columbia's tragedy will advance their
efforts on these premisses. Evident that the amount of Columbia tiles will
bring much more proofs on the work. This I wrote in behalf of the
astronauts, their families and the flights to come.
