14. (meteorobs) Fw: Lightning as the initiator

The electrical discharges associated with the shuttle Columbia may have
always been there. But as this was one of the closest watch reentry's,
what was seen with the ionization occurs with all meteors. The greater
the mass the greater the possible ionization. If the reentry is
associated with a meteor of the mass of the Columbia entering the upper
atmosphere the greater ionization..

There is research available showing high speed aircraft - example the
Blackbird - that indicated at very high altitude, the skin friction
will create electrical discharges. Lightning.

Circa 1916, C.R.T. Wilson suggested that lighting could be created by
meteors. The reason attributed to the friction and plasma generation and
the release of electrons.

Researcher, Ya Qi Li, in 1991, suggested the occurrence of high altitude
discharges are occurring and not being detected, possibly, as I have
suggested in the WGN, "Meteors Producing VLF Signatures independent of
Producing Electrophonic Sounds."

Research during the 2001 Leonids, suggest a meteor storm may create a
measurable vlf electrical field. See" ULF-VLF Electrical field
Measurements During the 2001 Leonid Storm," R. Tautner, EAS, or G.
Drobnock, "Vlf Signatures from non-fireball Meteors, Observations from
the 2001 Leonid Shower."

The followers of the CNN and NBC, the past few nights, the TV news
showing video from inside a shuttle reentry in 1997.. The view to the
outside as the shuttle entered showed the introduction of plasma as the
shuttle entered the atmosphere, followed by short flashes of electron
discharges - lightning.

It is possible that as particles broke away from the Shuttle, their
"dust" trails may have created paths allowing a much larger discharge
path.

At this point, until other evidence is available, light or stray flash
of electron discharges should be "blamed" for the disaster.
