(meteorobs) Feb 5/03 fireball from Montreal, Canada
Tim -
Thanks for your note on the bright meteor you saw in the Montreal, Canada
area. I have forwarded your posting on to 'MeteorObs', the meteor email
list, in case others in Canada - or south of the border - happened to see
the same event.
It would be appreciated if you could fill out a 'fireball' report form to
give us as much detail as possible. Our NAMN group, North American Meteor
Network, has an online form you can fill out at:
http://www.namnmeteors.org/fireball/report.html
For more information on meteors, check out our website at

newsletter, and all kinds of other information on meteors as well.

Subject: [RASCALS] Meteorite near Montreal
About 9:55 pm EST, driving out of Montreal on the Eastern Townships
autoroute, about 50 km east of Montreal, I saw the most spectacular
meteorite I have yet witnessed.
The night sky was clear and out the left side of my car, about NNE, I saw
for about two seconds a bright fireball and long tail. The nucleus was blue
and green and the tail white. After about two seconds, it disappeared,
about 10-20 degrees above the horizon.
This was something quite different from the usual high altitude grazes I
frequently see from my dark skies in the countryside. This was a bright
fireball and it seemed so close (although I realize appearances can be
deceiving).
I'm wondering if anyone else out there saw this event,
and wondering if anyone has a better explanation of what exactly I saw.
