Results of the AKM Video Meteor Network - May 2003

In May, the AKM camera network has been recording fewer than 1000 meteors for
the first time since about three years. The weather was not too bad and
especially during the eta Aquarids we collected a number of observations
(three cameras were operated in Ondrejov and Kunzak alone by that time), but
nights are getting shorter in the northern hemisphere, and from the eta Aquarids
you get at best one or two meteor trails in the morning twilight burned on
your hard disc at our northern latitudes. The otherwise lull time cannot be
compensated for by our currently only southern hemisphere observer.
On May 11, Ilkka Yrjola observed for the last time before his summer break.
Joerg Strunk managed again to collect an amazing 21 observing nights in May
with his automated camera. Detlef Koschny resumed regular observation by the
end of the month, but therefore Orlando Benitez-Sanchez has to suspend his
night time monitoring because of hard disc problems. Juergen Rendtel observed
another two nigths at Teneriffe, but did not yet manage to analyze the
tapes. Maybe we will finished with more than 1000 meteors together with
these observations? We will see...
