(meteorobs) August 12/13, 2003 meteor observation from Slovenia
I observed with two of our young female observers from Zaplana. As we
arrived the parking lot was empty but there were soon two other cars with
young people wanting to see the "shooting stars" (there was a bit
popularization in the media). The sky was clear for almost an hour but
then we got clouded. Soon we decided to heat towards the south as the Moon
was still in the cloudless sky.

We first stopped at Pokojisce (25 km from Zaplana) but the weather
conditions were the same: clear skies only to the south. So we went on...
and after 12 km of dirt road we decided to stop at a nice clearing in the
woods. Still only south was clear but the clouds were slowly dissipating
and we could see 3rd magnitude stars through the brightly lit clouds. We
waited for about 25 minutes before it cleared just enough to enable
observations. At 04:02 local it completely cleared and stayed so until the
end of our observations.
Unfortunately we missed the times of possible elevated activity but we
were lucky to be able to observe at all. I was surprised that I was able
to observe for three hours plus drive over 110 km (this includes 24 km of
dirt roads)... and wake up after two hours of sleep...
