(meteorobs) August 24/25, 2003 meteor observation from Slovenia
From August 21 to 30 we organized a youth astronomical summer
camp in a remote area in the southern part of Slovenia. I could join
the others for only three nights which were very productive. The first
night was from Sunday/Monday. It was clear all night but there was
a constant haze due to high humidity in that area.
I observed for almost three hours teff. I was first facing NNE as
there was the best transparency in that direction. Soon I changed
my mind. In 30 minutes I plotted five meteors coming from the
general direction of the Aquarid radiants so I thought it would be
better to face towards south.
In the second period there was some activity left from the Aquarids
but less than during the first period.
The most active shower were the Northern Iota Aquarids with five
members seen. Perseids, Kappa Cygnids, Northern Delta Aquarids
and Aurigids were tied with two members each. I also recorded 23
sporadic meteors.
There were several highlights that night. The brightest meteor was
a fast magnitude -3 sporadic at 00:57 UT that started at the
Cygnus/Vulpecula border and ended near the star 110 Herculis.
Another memorable meteor was a slow short magnitude -1
sporadic just below Beta Andromedae.
Clear skies!
