(meteorobs) Bright fireball on August 30/31 over Ontario, Canada

Hi All,

Stuart Heggie reported about this fireball on APML (reposted here with
permission):
> Date: August 30/31, 2003
> Time:12:30 am EDT
> Location: Flesherton Ontario Canada: Lat 44 deg 16' Long 80 deg 30.5'
> Direction: East heading North descending at 45 degree angle
> Colour: Very bright green
> Shape: tear drop
> Bolide? Yes - debris trailing off the back
> Visual Magnatude - can't say - was bright enough to induce squint
> against the brightness; as bright as a full moon anyway
> Notes: Also, some possibility that I heard it about 5 to 10 min later -
> a low, almost subsonic roar (like thunder or the tank range 25km away
> at the Meaford armed forces base). 10 min would put the boom about
> 100miles away - hard to believe.

Alen Koebel added (reposted without permission):
> I saw it too! I was in your area, more or less, about

> it. I would add that when it broke up, the pieces

> I thought someone had launched a flare, but when I
> turned around I could see it was no flare!

Clear skies!
