(meteorobs) Orionid Obs. Oct. 18/19

Screech Owl Hill Observatory, Mountain Meadows, West Virginia
            October 18/19, 2003 - Lat. 385710N Lon. 0785544W

I was hoping to get a few hours of Orionid Meteor Shower observing in,
but instead I had to contend with mostly to partly cloudy conditions. I did
see a long medium-slow trailed meteor coming from the NE earlier in the
evening, while I was observing through some sucker holes, that was coming from
either the Ursa Major or Lynx area! It was 2nd magn. and had a yellow-green
color. It was likely one of the meteors Gary is talking about. Unfortunetely,
it clouded up for a while after that, so I didn't observe again until several
hours later.

It did finally clear up completely near the end of the night, and I was
able to get a good hour of Orionid watching in under partly cloudy skies.
From 8:42 to 9:42 UT I saw 8 Orionids, with 33% clouds, and a 5.7 LM. The
best Orionid was a 1st magnitude pumpkin colored one seen at 9:36 that had
a .5 second wake. A couple Taurids, a Southern Apex, and 5 sporadic meteors
were also seen. Below is a brief summary of what was seen.
