Re: (meteorobs) Ripley's Believe it or not meteors/meteorites

Hello Bob and list,

Thanks for the kind words Bob.

My archives do not show anything on this event nor could I find anything in any reference material in my library.  I did a quick search through microfilm and couldn't find anything either, but there were two solar eclipses that year....:-)

So I have contacted the archive department of the headquarters of Ripley's Believe It or not.  The reference is being looked up and they are suppose to get back with me.   I have a research assistant helping me look through the local universities microfilm archives as I am typing.  I will let everyone know what, if any, information I find.

The above web page shows the car & the [Peekskill]
meteorite that punctured its right REAR fender & gas
tank.

I've referred the 1907 meteorite strike of a ship in
the Pacific" to an expert on meteorites in history.

I have footage of the fireball and subsequent car
damage on my website. The direct link to the movie is

In Ripley's Believe it or not a book for kids there
was this :
On Oct 9, 1992 a Michelle Knapp of Peeksville, NY
found that a a big meteorite hit her truck/car which
landed with a foul smelling odor.
She got paid for the "meteorite tricking car" and also
got $50,000 for the Meteorite!

Also

in 1907, it was told that a meteor struck the sailship
Eclipse in the mid Pacific ocean. The mast was carried
and only 3 of the crew survived on a Lifeboat. They
rowed 900 miles to Hawaii in 13 days.

Anyone every heard of either particularly the 1907
one?
