(meteorobs) Radio Geminids

Totally cloudy here in Alberta after a week of clear skies which were
cold to the point of ice fog developing. There was also a spectacularly high
full to gibbous moon to deal with, but you know all that already.

Have been listening to Geminids by forward scatter on my Northern Claw
Radio Meteor Observatory for the past couple of hours, and they have been
coming through at a very consistent rate of one to two per minute. I am
using Jim Sky's Radio Skypipe software to record signals from commercial
transmitters in Calgary and beyond, at frequency 92.1. I have the screen set
to show the last ten minutes of data, the traditional "bin" we have used in
Edmonton for visual observing for many years. Every time I have checked
there have been 12 or 15 or 18 "hits" on screen. Most are brief, underdense
bursts, with occasional hits of longer duration.

I have been running the system continuously for days, but have not yet
had the opportunity to transcribe previous results, so can not at this point
say how much of an increase tonight's activity represents. I hope to have a
more complete report shortly.

    regards, Bruce
