I could be wrong, but doesn't the Theory of relativity cover this gorund? The speed of light is a constant, but what will vary is the relative time experienced by the 2-ships. Albert wouldn't have overlooked something like this. Watch/read Carl Sagan's Cosmos series/book sometime to get a much better explanation than I could ever give you.
