I've also seen some neat video setups, Conrad: generally, for fainter stuff, 
people with either use a digital videocam for (effectively) doing CCD imaging, 
or else they'll add an image intensifier into the light path (to the tune of 
$300 - $3000), to make faint objects visible to the less-than-sensitive cam.

But as Todd mentioned, a simple camera works GREAT for brighter objects, both 
planetary and deep-sky. Are you considering trying this out yourself?
