(IAAC) galaxies

I've been reading about Lew's observations of the galaxies in Virgo. I have
a question I hope some of you can help me with. I have a Meade 10" f4.5
reflector. I live in Philadelphia, PA so have a lot of bright light around
me. The only galaxy I've had an opportunity to observe is Andromeda. It was
easy to see but the local light washed out any detail. I'm about to take my
first trip to a really dark site in a few weeks. I'm wondering with my
scope what magnitude of galaxies I should be able to see. Also, what would
be some good target galaxies for this time of year? Should I expect to be
able to see only a faint smudge of light or are there any where some detail
may be visible?

Thanks,
Harold
