Are you an amateur astronomer interested in deep-sky observing? Do you enjoy
looking at objects through the scope, but wish you had a convenient way of
sharing observing experience with other amateurs?
'IAAC' is the Internet Amateur Astronomers Catalog - a growing compendium of
deep-sky observations from amateurs like you. The IAAC is built around an email
mailing list called 'netastrocatalog', which is devoted EXCLUSIVELY to these
logs of deep-sky observations. If you are interested in learning more about the
IAAC, contact me at the address below.
ANNOUNCEMENT: You can now search the Web archive of IAAC deep-sky observations
by catalog and object ID! The Web search form is at:
http://www.tiac.net/users/lewkaren/netastrocatalog/search.html
Simply select from the (long) list of deep-sky catalogs to search in, and then
enter the identifier you wish to search for. The form responds by showing you a
hyperlinked list of all the observing logs which have so far been submitted to
IAAC for that object!
Below is a sample search for the object "IC 10", a galaxy in Cassiopeia:
You select "IC" from the catalog list, then enter the number "10" in the
"Identifier" field. Hit the "Search IAAC Logs" button, and...
IAAC Observations Matching Your Criteria
Found 2 matches for your object!
(IAAC) Dwarf Galaxy IC10 20" Dobsonian
(IAAC) Obj: IC 10 (Dwarf Galaxy) - Inst: 13" f/5.6
Refine or Change Your Search...
You can then click on either of these observations to see the full log!
Clear skies, and happy searching,
Lew Gramer <owner-netastrocatalog@latrade.com>
