Penny -

You really don't "split" Rigel in the sense of separating 2 very close
stars.  The companion is 10 or so magnitudes fainter than Rigel itself
so the problem is digging out the faint companion from the glare of the
brighter component.  At 9 arc seconds separation, your scope should put
the stars far enough apart... the problem is picking out the faint
member.  It's an easy "split" with a C-8 at my usual 110x magnification.
