This refers to Galactic Longitude and Latitude, which is used for the
calculation of extinction and other knowable residuals,

refers to a coordinate system (I thought defunct) related to the Palomar
Observatory Sky Survey,

"Old" style descriptions, likely Dreyer code, I would guess,
