Cindy, there's no way to tell for sure what you saw after the fact, but from the
sound of it, it was probably either a satellite or a meteor...

Both can be very dim. In fact, some sat watchers have to program their "Goto"
telescopes to find and track the satellites they watch, because they're too
faint to be found with the naked eye! Same for meteors: there are folks who
observe them exclusively with telescopes, to detect just a few of the hundreds
and hundreds that occur each night below naked-eye visibility.

By the way, we're very interested in hearing what "deep sky stuff" you might
have come on in your sweeps! Did you happen on any clusters, nebulae, or
multiple star systems while you were in Orion that night? Let us know!
