Re: (IAAC) Obj: M39, Epsilon Lyrae, Delta Lyrae, M57(unsuccessful), the Coathanger, Deneb, NGC 7000 (North American Nebula) (unsuccessful) - Inst: 10x50 binoculars

I saw M57 Last Saturday (11 Sep) with outstandingly clear skies on the
island of Oahu in Hawaii. I used my 8" SCT at about 100x. Superb!! Looked
like two green rings on top of each other but somewhat offset. Also saw the
Veil nebula (NGC6960) without any filters. Never attempted either with
binoc's though- I would have to say WOW! to that. You all must be in some
great dark skies!!

I've seen both M27 and M57 using unfiltered 10 X 50's. The trick is, as Dave
says, you need nice and dark skies. The other trick is that your eyes need
to be completely dark-adapted.
