Re: (IAAC) position angle

One interesting question to consider while you're researching the topic of
galaxy position angles, Mark, is what a VISUAL observer will detect as the p.a.,
versus what a catalog (which is usually based on PHOTOGRAPHIC surveys) may list
for it... After all, one of the interest things about visual deep-sky is that we
may see quite different details than the classic photographs and surveys show,
for example observing an oblong galaxy core at one p.a., while a catalog lists
a quite different p.a. for the outer (photographic) halo of the galaxy.

Anyway, we'd appreciate your summarizing for the -discuss list whatever you end
up finding about observing p.a.'s for extended objects! Clear skies,
