Mark,
That is so very kind I would love to take up your offer but this year I am
hoping to come over to see the Leonids, which will absorb my travel cash for
the year. Maybe the year after next I would really like to go somewhere one
can see the summer constellations (Next year we are planning to visit Las
Palmas to view the Leonid storm at high altitude to minimise the worst
effects of moonlight).
Up here if the weather is bad at the end of August/early September you can
forget seeing the Sagittarius objects, as for Scorpius it is never visible
under dark skies. There are compensations though, the Ursa major and Canes
Venatici galaxies reach the zenith for the later parts of the winter and we
can get spectacular auroras and the noctilucent clouds. Also the long summer
evenings are very lovely at least until the midges come out.
I hope the weather in Missouri is kind to you this summer. Observing under
warm conditions must be a great treat.
