I do not think that this is true. I have not seen it in binos (10x50)
but I have seen it (barely) in a 6" Dob as well as my 8" SCT. Best skies
I have around here are mag 4 to 4.5 and M33 is a very difficult object
for me. It is so much fainter than M31 that it simply amazes me that
anyone could even think about making this naked eye, let alone actually
seeing it unaided. But maybe if I had darker skies . . .
