The seeing is torture a lot of the time when sky is cold and clear. But alas one has to make the best of what Mother Nature dishes out.

Description:
55X - The galaxy is oriented early N.-S. The oval core is bright and soft without hint of a stellar nucleus. The halo is faint, but apparently oval with an extension projecting to the north ending in a faint knot. The southern arm if there is one is lost in the glare of TYC 5849-2407-1, a 9.47m star. I can repeatidly see the extension and knot with averted vision, but I cannot hold it more than a second or so. The seeing is wracking havoc with the background stars.
