Re: Re: (IAAC) Obj: NGC247 - Inst: 30CM/F:10 SCT/LX200

Hi Kim.
The seeing is torture a lot of the time when sky is cold and clear. But alas one has to make the best of what Mother Nature dishes out.
Such is the Heavenly Quest,

Location of site: Phelps Lake, NC (Lat 35:44, Elev 20')
Site classification: Rural
Sky darkness: 7-8/10 <1-10 Scale (10 best)>
Seeing: 3-4/10 <1-10 Seeing Scale (10 best)>
Moon presence: None - moon not in sky
Instrument: 30CM/F:10 SCT/LX200
Magnification: 55X,117X, 138.5X, 203X, 254X, 314X
Filter(s): UHC, O-III
Object(s): NGC247
Category: External galaxy.
Class:
Constellation: Cet
Data: mag 9.2v size 19' X 5.5'
Position: RA 00:47.1 DEC -20:46
Description:
55X - The galaxy is oriented early N.-S. The oval core is bright and soft without hint of a stellar nucleus. The halo is faint, but apparently oval with an extension projecting to the north ending in a faint knot. The southern arm if there is one is lost in the glare of TYC 5849-2407-1, a 9.47m star. I can repeatidly see the extension and knot with averted vision, but I cannot hold it more than a second or so. The seeing is wracking havoc with the background stars.
