Re: (IAAC) Obj: STF 1095 - Inst: Celestar 8" SCT, fork mount

Hi William,

I've been enjoying your double star observations, as I also do most of my
observing with a C8. (I check the tough ones with our club's 16" LX200.)

You've probably seen this marvelous double (it's only an optical pair), but I
like to remind everyone of it each winter: HJ 3945 (John Herschel) at RA 07
16 43 and Dec -23 19 10. It has one of the finest color contrasts in the
heavens, especially beautiful in larger apertures. The primary is a deep
orange red, magnitude 4.8 and the companion, 26" away, is deep blue and
magnitude 6.8. It's similar to Albireo - dimmer, but with even stronger
colors. It's less than 2 degrees NNW of the also wonderful open cluster NGC
2362.

Enjoy!
Doug S.
