Re: Re: (IAAC) Obj: NGC 7727 - Inst: 10" f/4.5 Dobsonian

Hi Charles Rose.

The best I can determine Aqr is the modern accepted
abbreviation for Aquarius. All the current abbreviations
use only 3 characters while some older literature use
4 character abbreviations. The 'Astronomy Data Book'
by: 'J. Hedley Robinson'
(1972)
list both in the 'Alphabetical List of Constellations'
on pages 175-179. ("Aquarius: Aqr & Aqar")
Most other sources I referenced use the complete spelling
or the 3 character abbreviations.

Any experts on historical spelling out there are solicited for their opinions about this matter.

Regards and Clear Skies,
Jim Anderson

Just curious, but does the constellation Aqua mean Aquarius?

Charles
