Description:
These observations were recently made while waiting for Hale-Bopp to rise!
Included are detailed notes of several challenging Hickson groups including
Hickson 30, 31, 32, 34 and 37 and 38. Observing aids included Hickson's
CCD images from the Canada-France-Hawaii telescope, Megastar-generated
finder charts and digitized images downloaded from SkyView.

Hickson 38a = M+02-24-012
09 27.6 +12 16
17.5:Hickson 38a appears extremely faint, small, low surface brightness,
20" diameter (this is the central region). At moments extremely faint
extensions are visible oriented NNW-SSE increasing the diameter to ~45".
Located 2.5' SW of the brighter interacting pair U05044 (Hickson 39b/c).
Hickson 38d was not visible.

Hickson 38b = M+02-24-013 and Hickson 38c = M+02-24-014

17.5:Hickson 38b appears as an unresolved pair with Hickson 39c, separation
between centers only 15". Both objects appeared as a single faint glow. A
mag 13 star is located 30" NW. Located 7' SSE of mag 7.9 SAO 98580.
Interestingly, Hickson 38a 2.5' SW is a more difficult object.
