Date/time of observation: UTC: 1998/02/02 4:30 - EST 98/02/01 11.30pm
Location of site: Norwell, MA (Lat , Elev )
Site classification: Exurban
Sky darkness: 5.2 <Limiting magnitude>
Seeing: 6 <1-10 Scale (10 best)>
Moon presence: Minor - crescent or far from object
Instrument: 8" Ultima 8 PEC f/10
Magnification: 39X, 111X, 166x
Filter(s): none
Object(s): M100, NGC4312, IC783, NGC4322, NGC4328
Category: External galaxy
Class: Galaxy cluster
Constellation: Leo
Data: mag 9.4 size ?
Position: RA 12:23 DEC 15:50
Description:
M100 was large and with somewhat low surface brightness, but easy at
111X. It showed as face on with a definite brightening of the central
regions at 166X. Outer edges seemed to fade for some reason. At 166X
NGC432 appeared as a small stellar "smudge". Actually I am unsure if
seen. I could not locate IC783,NGC 4328, and 4322 at any magnification
even though they should have been within the C-8's grasp.
