Description:
NGC 4647 is the faintest but not the least interesting member of a bright trio
of galaxies with M60 and M59 (see other logs this night). This loose spiral was
an intriguing, irregularly diffuse "echo" of larger M60's halo, distinct from
the nearby elliptical at first, but then gradually linking with the outermost
SE edge of M60's halo in averted vision. At higher power (12mm TV, 210x, 23'),
a brightening was apparent slightly off-center of the halo, with a hint of a
stellar nucleus embedded in it. The halo itself appeared much more regular, as
a symmetric "double lobe" or "S shape", with averted vision showing interesting
indentations and dark mottling S of center, all the way to the S and SW edges.
