Description:
Abell 1367 is a rich galaxy cluster that I have viewed several times with a
variety of apertures. Using a 12.5 inch I was able to see a total of 15
galaxies, most very faint, in a one degree field of view. Moving up to
a 20 inch in the mountains of central Arizona, I was able to discern 22
galaxies and some nice detail within them, several with bright cores and
one with very faint spiral arms. With Larry Mitchell's 36" at TSP 1996 I
spent half an hour with this amazing cluster of distant galaxies. Using
a 20mm Nagler, I could pick out 122 galaxies in a 2 degree area around the
the rich core of this galaxy cluster. There are many different galaxies in
a wide variety of shapes and sizes in this grouping. The central area has
a dozen galaxies that are easy and another 15 that appear with averted vision.
All in all, my best view of an Abell galaxy cluster.
