>While observing the recent type IIn supernova 1998S in NGC 3877, a
spiral galaxy 0.3 south of Chi UMa, for the seventh time since 3/17/98,
I compared it once again to a nearby 12.6 magnitude field star and found
that the supernova, which had formerly been brighter than the field
star, had decreased in magnitude. Subsequently, I learned that 1998S,
the brightest supernova since 1987A, was indeed in decline. By early
June it may be as dim as 15th magnitude.
