Observer: Yann POTHIER (France)
Your skill: advanced (many years)
Date and UT of observation: 03 July 1995, about 23h40 UT
Location & latitude: La Clapiere Obs. (France, latN44 40 00, longE06 27 36)
Site classification: rural, alt.1650m (5500ft)
Limiting magnitude (visual in UMi): 6.2
Seeing (1 to 5 - best to worst): 2.5 (based on naked eye scintillation)
Moon up (phase?): no
Instrument: Coulter 17.5" F/4.5
Magnification: 211x
=46ilters used: UHC, OIII, prism, Wr38A
Object: Hu 2-1 (PK 51+9 1; PN G051.4+09.6)
Category: Planetary Nebula
Constellation: HER
Object data: Vmag=3D11.4; dim.3"x3"; type I; central * of Vmag=3D13.4 (WR
spectra); discovered by Humason (1922); ELCAT: [OIII]=3D4x[Hbeta]
RA/DE: 18h49.8m, +20=B051' (2000); Uranometria 160

Description: at 312x and OIII, stellar although slightly fuzzy edges (maybe
3 or 4" in diameter); bright with a brighter center; very slightly nebulous
at 312x+OIII and 624x+OIII; central star visible (or believed to have been
seen) with Wr38A filter; UHC has a good contrast gain while OIII has a very
good one; at 80x with a straight-view prism, the spectra looks stellar
(like a mag11 star) with a faint continuous spectrum (maybe the central
star?).

I can provide a scanned drawing of Hu 2-1 to anyone who can read the binhex
encoding of Eudora (for Mac); just mail me to try
(ypothier@abi.snv.jussieu.fr), it works sometimes with other
configurations...
