Description:
I observed two of the little known planetary nebulae that are featured in an
article appearing in the January 1999 issue of Sky & Telescope. At 10.6
magnitude IC 2165 in Canis Major, while small, was relatively easy to see
without a nebula filter. Sanduleak 2-21 was a different story, however. Some 10
times larger and 2 magnitudes dimmer this planetary nebula definitely required an
O-III filter. No structure was seen, only an amorphous blob. The 4.4 magnitude
star 16 Puppis is approximately 4' east of Sa 2-21.
