Description:
A big galaxy with a bright centre. The nucleus was slightly difuse rather
than stellar and the brightness of thew diffuse core declined rapidly
outwards into an elongated glow covering much of the 9 ' field of the
eyepiece, about 6' or so long extending to the bright overlying star visible
in the DSS photo. The fait extensions sen in the photograph were not noted.
There was a dark lane visible on the following side of the nucleus at about
pa.340, and another more irregular one on the preceding side at pa 350
curving under nucleus to pa.10 degrees. There were other more diffuse dark
patches of dust which seemed to form an elusive but regular pattern.
Another galaxy well worth a visit with good observable detail.
