(IAAC) M 2-2 (PK 147+04.1; PK 147+4 1; PN G147.8+04.1) - 8" F/10

Observer: Yann POTHIER (France)
Your skill: advanced (many years)
Date and UT of observation: 27 December 1992, about 23h00 UT
Location & latitude: La Clapiere Obs. (France, latN44 40 00, longE06 27 36)
Site classification: rural, alt.1650m (5500ft)
Limiting magnitude (visual in UMi): 6.0
Transparency (1 to 5 - best to worst): 2
Seeing (1 to 5 - best to worst): 3
Moon up (phase?): no
Instrument: Meade 8"/203mm F/10
Magnification: 145-312x
=46ilters used: OIII, visual spectroscope
Object: M 2-2 (PK 147+04.1; PK 147+4 1; PN G147.8+04.1)
Category: planetary nebula
Constellation: CAM
Object data: Vmag=3D13.7; dim.12"x11" (15"x14" according to IDB); type III+I=
I
; central star ?; discovered by Minkowski in 1947; ELCAT: OIII [496+501nm]=
=3D
16 x Hbeta [486nm]
RA/DE: 04h13.3m, +56=B056' (2000); Uranometria 39;

Description: at 145x, it is a faint mag13.5 "fuzzy" star; it was too faint
to be confirmed with the home-made spectroscope, because too faint to be
seen through it; good contrast gain with the OIII filter because it "makes"
the PN as bright as some nearby mag10 stars; only visible in averted
vision; quite fuzzy at 312x, it is about 20" in diameter or less; 3 mag8
stars are at 13'SSE, 8'N and 8'W.

I can provide a scanned drawing of M 2-2 to anyone who can read the binhex
encoding of Eudora (for Mac); just mail me to try
(ypothier@abi.snv.jussieu.fr), it works sometimes with other
configurations...
