HD 316340)
Category: planetary nebula
Constellation: SGR
Object data: Vmag=11.8; Bmag=13.6; dim.>13"; type II+VI PN; central star of
Vmag=???; discovered by Hubble in 1921.
RA/DE: 17h47.9m, -30°00' (2000);
Description: at 390x, faint fuzzy patch placed very near a mag12 star (at
about 15"SW PA225°); the two are quite similar in brightness; at 650x,
perfectly round (about 10" in diameter) and homogeneous.
Note: on professionnal ccd shots, Hb 5 shows dramatic details, looking like
the Southern Crab nebula of the bug nebula (NGC 6302); with better seeing
conditions and maybe from a more southern latitude, it should show its
details to fine optics.
I can provide a scanned drawing of Hb 5 to anyone who can read the binhex
encoding of Eudora (for Mac); just mail me to try
(ypothier@abi.snv.jussieu.fr), it works sometimes with other
configurations...
