Object: IC 289 (PK 138+02.1; PN G138.8+02.8; Hb 1; ARO 86)
Category: planetary nebula
Constellation: CAS
Object data: Vmag=13.2; 45"x30"; type IV+II; central star of Vmag=16.8;
discovered by Swift between 1888 and 1901 (as a PN by Hubble in 1921);
ELCAT: [OIII, 496+501nm] = 7 x [Hbeta, 486nm].
RA/DE: 03h10.3m, +61°19' (2000)

Description: at 145x, seen with averted vision to the N of a mag10 star;
very faint PN, medium to large in size, a little larger and sharper with
UHC; hard to see with OIII but well defined and slightly oval along a
NNW-SSE, estimated to be 40"x30", quite homogeneous; mag14 star 20" from
the NE edge; mag10 star 1.6' to the SSE.

I can provide a scanned drawing of IC 289 to anyone who can read the binhex
encoding of Eudora (for Mac); just mail me to try
(ypothier@abi.snv.jussieu.fr), it works quite often with other
configurations...
