Description:
Terzan 2 is a small cluster measuring about 1' diameter. It is
superimposed over an 11TH magnitude star, which is positioned on the
southwestern edge of the cluster. The cluster is either partially
resolved or several 16-17th magnitude stars are positioned over the
face of the object. The cluster has a low surface brightness, but is
not a real challenge for Hector (my 20" scope).The low surface
brightness, and the 11th magnitude star do make the cluster a little
difficult to locate when you first try. No central condensation was
visible. Using the 14" apature mask I was still able to locate the
cluster with difficulty, but the cluster was lost with the 12"
mask. Curiously the brightest of the faint stars scattered over the
face of the cluster were still visible. If these stars are cluster
members they must be increadably bright compared to the rest of the
cluster.
