(IAAC) IC 3568 - 17.5" F/4.5

Observer: Yann POTHIER (France)
Your skill: advanced (many years)
Object: IC 3568 (PK 123+34.1; PN G123.6+34.5; ARO 56)
Category: planetary nebula
Constellation: CAM
Object data: Vmag=10.6; Bmag=11.6; 18"x18"; type II+IIa; central star of
Vmag=11.4; discovered by Aitken in 1900; ELCAT: [OIII, 496+501nm] = 15 x
[Hbeta, 486nm].
RA/DE: 12h33.11m, +82°33.8' (2000.0)
Date and UT of observation: 16 August 1996, 00h00 UT
Location & latitude: Chateau Renard Obs. (France, latN44 40, longE06 44)
Site classification: mountain peak, alt.2950m (8900ft)
Limiting magnitude (visual in UMi): 6.5 with averted vision
Transparency (1 to 5 - best to worst): 1
Seeing (1 to 5 - best to worst): 3 (stellar stars until 180x)
Moon up (phase?): no
Instrument: Coulter 445mm/17.5" F/4.5
Magnification: 211-400x
Filters used: UHC, OIII, Hbeta

Description: at 400x, small PN, round and bright, about 25" in diameter
(based on drawing); fuzzy edges, brighter center; UHC and OIII give a good
contrast gain and Hbeta is of no use, except... that it renders the nebula
more homogeneous (maybe by enhancing slightly the outer parts); central
star of mag12 and a mag14 star stands against the SSSW edge; mag11 star
1.5' to the S.

I can provide a scanned drawing of IC 2165 to anyone who can read the
binhex encoding of Eudora (for Mac); just mail me to try
(ypothier@abi.snv.jussieu.fr), it works quite often with other
configurations...
