Object data: Vmag=10.9; Bmag=10.8; 120x90" [64x60" in IDB]; type III+II;
central star of Vmag=9.4; discovered by Herschel in 1787; ELCAT: [OIII,
496+501nm] = 13 x [Hbeta, 486nm].
RA/DE: 04h09.20m, +30°47.' (2000.0)
Date and UT of observation: 02 March 1992,
Location & latitude: La Clapiere Obs. (France, latN44 40 00, longE06 27 36)
Site classification: rural, alt.1650m (5500ft)
Limiting magnitude (visual in UMi): 5.6
Transparency (1 to 5 - best to worst): 2
Seeing (1 to 5 - best to worst): 3
Moon up (phase?): no
Instrument: Meade SCT 8" (203mm), F/10
Magnification: 87x
Filters used: OIII

Description: at 87x, much more evident and better defined with OIII filter;
centered on a central star of mag10, round and quite homogeneous with a
very slightly brighter area crossing the object from WNW to ESE (brightest
to the E of the central star); about 120" in diameter; mag9.5 stars 8.2'NNW
and 9'S.

I can provide a scanned drawing of NGC 1514 to anyone who can read the
binhex encoding of Eudora (for Mac); just mail me to try
(ypothier@abi.snv.jussieu.fr), it works quite often with other
configurations...
