(IAAC) NGC 6826 - 8" F/10

Observer: Yann POTHIER (France)
Your skill: advanced (many years)
Object: NGC 6826 (PK 083+12.1; PN G083.5+12.7; ARO 13)
Category: planetary nebula
Constellation: CYG
Object data: Vmag=8.8; Bmag=9.8; diam.>25" (27"x24"); type IIIa+II; central
star of Vmag=10.6 (sp.06fp); discovered by W. Herschel in 1793; ELCAT:
[OIII, 496+501nm] = 10 x [Hbeta, 486nm].
RA/DE: 19h44.85m, +50°31.3' (2000.0)
Date and UT of observation: 24 July 1993, 00h00UT
Location & latitude: La Clapiere Obs. (France, latN44 40 00, longE06 27 36)
Site classification: rural, alt.1650m (5500ft)
Limiting magnitude (visual with averted vision in UMi): 6.3
Transparency (1 to 5 - best to worst): 1
Seeing (1 to 5 - best to worst): 2
Moon up (phase?): no
Instrument: Meade SCT 8"/203mm f/10
Magnification: 145x
Filters used: OIII, prism

Description: at 80x with prism, central star shows a continuous spectrum
(long streak of light) crossing a nebular dot (nebular enveloppe); at 45x,
fuzzy star; at 80x, large PN, easy and bright; at 100x, slightly irregular
in shape; central star of about mag11 detached but not obvious; at 145x,
superb view: slight blink effect, about 30" in diameter, quite homogeneous
although slightly brighter towards the center; at 290x, bluish tint of the
nebula is quite apparent; the OIII filter gives a better view and hide the
central star; a mag11 star is 1.5' SSW.

I can provide a scanned drawing of NGC 6826 to anyone who can read the
binhex encoding of Eudora (for Mac); just mail me to try
(yann.pothier@fnac.net), it works quite often with other configurations...
