Description:
You needn't do without galaxies even if you own only a very small
telescope. In my last observing session my goal was the galaxies of
Leo, CVn and Com. In Leo I were able to spot nine galaxies with only
4 inch aperture. Three galaxies form this small group.
M 65 and M 66 are the easy ones. With 21x are both clearly seen in
one field as quite small patches. The third, NGC 3628 is in most
catalogs recorded with a brightness similar to the two other. But the
surface brightness of this edge-on galaxy is dimmer. With 21x I were
only able to spot it with averted vision. But it appeared larger and
I caught a touch of elongation. To be sure I confirmed my observation
with my sky-charting software.
With 59x I spotted all galaxies more clearly, especially the fainter
one.
