Category: Globular cluster.
Class:
Constellation: Sgr
Data: mag 6.9 size 11.2 (Tirion)
Position: RA 18:24.5 DEC -24:52
Description:
At 100X, this cluster appears 4' in diameter and is much
brighter toward the center. No stars are resolved. The
nucleus is tight. Wil Tirion and Uranometria 2000 Deep
Sky Field Guide both list this GC as 11.2' in dia., so
my current southern sky conditions only allow the brighter,
inner regions to be seen.
At 324X, the core is more apparent and noticeably brighter
than the surrounding areas with just a hint of half a dozen
resolved stars just outside the core.
