Category: Emission nebula.
Class:
Constellation: Per
Data: mag 11.2 size 9' x 6'
Position: RA 04:03 DEC 51:18
Description:
A compact gaseous nebula,it is a curious strip of nebulosity with 7-8 faint
stars and a brighter(mag11) star embedded in it. The mag. 11 star is enveloped
in fainter nebulosity near the western apex a triangle of brighter nebulosity.
The brightest part of the nebula, a strip running roughly north /south, shows
some uneveness in brightness but no definite structure. A UHC filter enhanced
the contrast of the nebulosity.

Through the 20" it closely resembles the illustration in Lughinbuhl and Skiff.
It is a worthwhile object to seek out as it is such a well defined nebulosity
and the faint embedded stars add to its attraction.
