Object Rating: A
Description: A spectacular pair of galaxies, a wonderful object in the 20",
comprising a very elongated and thin galaxy preceded closely by an oval
galaxy. The oval galaxy is brighter towards its preceding edge where there
is a roughly triangular patch or sector running northwards. Apart from
being somewhat brighter in the centre there is not much other variation
across this galaxy. The elongated galaxy has a brighter central core and
shows other tantalising glimpses of structure. There seems to be a dark lane
down the centre of the galaxy and suggestions of dark streaks down the side
nearest the oval galaxy as though one was not looking at the galaxy
completely edge on. The galaxies seem rather more diffuse around the edges
than the illustrations in Lughinbuhl and Skiff suggest.
